النمل زارع الفطر.Ant fungus planter
يزرع حدائق من الفطر داخل أعشاشه، ويربي فيها أنواعاً مختلفة منه كأشباه العفن أو أشباه الخميرة. وينتج الفطر كتلا من العقد الغذائية الدقيقة يتغذى بها النمل. ويقوم النمل بتسميد حدائقه الفطرية بأوراق النباتات أو ببتلات الأزهار ومواد نباتية أخرى يجمعها من خارج العش. وعندما تذهب ملكة حديثة في طيران التزاوج تحمل معها قطعة من الفطر. وبعد تحضيرها للعش، تبدأ الملكة في زرع حديقة فطر جديدة من تلك القطعة، وتسمدها بفضلاتها. ويوجد النمل زارع الفطر بوفرة في المناطق المدارية، وربما يكون من أشهر أنواع هذا النمل وأكثرها إثارة النمل قاطع أوراق النباتات. فهو يبني أعشاشا ضخمة تحت الأرض قد يعيش فيها ملايين النمل. وفي الليل، تترك الشغالات العش في صفوف طويلة لقطع أجزاء من أوراق الأشجار والشجيرات والنباتات الأخرى، ثم تحملها عائدة إلى العش ممسكةً بها فوق رؤوسها، فتبدو وكأنها تحمل مظلات، ولذا يسمى ـ أحيانا ـ نمل المظلات. ويقوم النمل داخل العش بمضغ الأوراق وتحويلها إلى عجينة يضعها على حدائق الفطر. ويُعد النمل قاطع الأوراق من الآفات الزراعية الخطيرة؛ لأنه يزيل الأوراق من المحاصيل.Ant gardens cultivated mushrooms inside his house reared in different types of mushroom-like fungus Aghaffn Oovtr yeast.
